Ruggles MineHere are some dimly fluorescent rocks we collected in New Hampshire and Maine around 1994, shown under "natural" fluorescent light, and under shortwave UV from a 110 watt lamp at a few inches. The yellow to orange fluorescence may be fluorapatite and/or beryl. Red may be feldspar. Green could be hyalite and/or uranium minerals. Dark blue areas in the pictures are mostly non-fluorescent areas reflecting the lamp. Some of the light blue areas are mostly white fluorescence plus reflection.Click any picture below for 3D version - must have sView plugin installed and use Internet Explorer, Microsoft Edge in IE Mode, or very old versions of Firefox ESR |
